Islip High School seniors Mora Peterson and Hailey Zambrana signed letters of intent on Feb. 7, making a commitment to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level this fall. Peterson will wrestle at Doane University in Nebraska, while Zambrana will play lacrosse at Western Connecticut State University.

“Both of you are about to start an amazing journey,” Athletic Director John Sparacio said. “College is fun. It comes quick, and it also goes pretty fast. So, enjoy all the time in between, and don’t forget about who got you here – your parents, your family, your teachers, your coaches, your friends. We’re really proud of you and your accomplishments, and we all wish you the best. You will always be welcome to come back and share your experiences at school with our underclassmen.”

“You should all be really proud of the effort that got you here,” Superintendent Dr. Dennis P. O’Hara said. “First of all, doing a college sport is a privilege, an honor. It’s reflective of all the hard work you put in, and it puts you in a very small percentage of the population. So, embrace it, embrace the grind and enjoy every moment of it.”
