Principal's Message

Dear Sherwood Families,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!

I hope your summer has been refreshing, and you have been able to spend some time relaxing and making memories with your loved ones. This summer, we enjoyed our first international family vacation - we went to Curaçao! The kids loved getting their passports and found it fascinating that people could speak so many languages! When the James children (Ainsley, 5, and Greyson, 8) were not at camp, we carved out time for early morning breakfasts on the beach, late night s'mores, and, of course, peach and strawberry picking out east.

As we begin our new school year, I am excited to maintain and strengthen the strong home-school partnerships we have created over the past few years; for we know that all of us working together in the best interest of our children is the greatest precursor to student success. Throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or to learn more about the place where your child spends the majority of his or her time each day! The District will continue to use ParentSquare to communicate regularly, but I always encourage a personal phone call or email, as well.

As I have shared over the years, I am keenly aware of the faith you place in us each and every day as you send your children off to school. I promise to cherish, nurture, and safeguard each and every one of your children and to treat each with dignity and care. Please enjoy the remaining days of summer. I am very much looking forward to seeing you and your children on the first day of school and every day thereafter!

Holiday Flashback: Remembering Last Month’s Caroling Extravaganza thumbnail263569

Student singers from Islip High School and Islip Middle School embarked on their caroling rounds across the district on Dec. 19, making cheerful stops at Commack Road, Sherwood, Wing and the district office, as well as over the high school’s PA system. Led by Dr. Rich Harris, who accompanied the singers on keyboards, the approximately 100 choral students worked hard to prepare for this exuberant annual celebration of holiday music and community spirit.

“This is one of our favorite Islip traditions, and a reminder of music’s ability to connect us all, especially during the holidays,” Director of Fine and Performing Arts Michael Hershkowitz said.
